Christianity Explored in Kuala Lumpur

Developed over 10 years, Christianity Explored is an informal course for people who'd like to investigate Christianity, or just brush up on the basics. It explores who Jesus was, what his aims were, and what it means to follow him.
You won't be asked to pray, sing or read aloud, and you can ask any questions you like. Or, if you prefer, you can just come along and listen.
Day: Tuesday Evenings
Dates: January 6th—March 17th (except January 27th)
Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm (dinner included from 7 to 7:30pm)
Venue: St Mary’s Anglican Cathedral, Jalan Raja, Dataran Merdeka, 50050, Kuala Lumpur.
Cost: Free

To let us know you are coming or if you want to find out more, please contact Mr. Gordon Kong (013 3838 611) or the Cathedral Office ( 03-2692 8672 / 03-2694 5470). Or just come along on the first night. If you would like to do the course but cannot come on Tuesday nights, please ring Gordon to discuss alternatives.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. Who is Christianity Explored for?

A. Christianity Explored is for anyone who wants to investigate Christianity informally with a group of other people. Whether you have previous experience of Church, Christians and the Bible, or none at all, this course is for you. Everyone is welcome - from the most regular churchgoer to the convinced atheist. Tell us as little or as much about yourself as you feel comfortable.

Q. What goes on?

A. A meal is provided at the start of the evening (7pm), so don't worry if you have to come straight from work. The course is normally run in several groups of six to nine people, and after briefly discussing the course material from the week before, there is a talk or DVD on the theme for that week. Then the groups discuss any questions that have arisen, and the evening ends at about 9pm. Of course, if you'd like, you're welcome to stick around a bit longer to discuss any further issues you might have. And you can ask any question you want, at any time during the course.

Q. How long does the course last?

A. The course runs for 10 weeks, including a day away, when you can explore other areas such as the Bible, the Holy Spirit, prayer and the church.

Q. Can I pull out if I want to?

A. Of course you can.

Q. How much does the course cost?

A. Nothing - but there will be a box if you want to discreetly contribute toward the food provided.

Q. Do I have to bring anything?

No, all course materials are provided..

Q. Is it ‘churchy’?

A. We hope not. It's not a church service. There's no praying, singing, or clapping, and you won't be asked to read aloud.

Q. Do I have to speak in the group?

A. Not if you don't want to. You are welcome to come and just sit and listen.

Q. Why is the course run?

A. We count it a real privilege to explain the truth and relevance of the Christian message. We don't have all the answers but believe that we have exciting news to share about Jesus Christ.

A berry good time

A church that doesn't pray is like a fish that doesn't swim. Although the theological parallel to it may seem a little dubious, the point is that as a church we MUST pray. Why is that?

As a church, Christ is our head and as it is written,

"From [Christ] the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work." Ephesians 4:16

Praying to God means communing with God. Our prayer life reflects our relationship with God. To that end, if we are the body of Christ, we should pray to God to acknowledge Him as our Lord and Saviour, to seek His will, bring our petitions before Him and to Him for His blessing and goodness.
SMACC team is primarily a monthly prayer meeting where we come together as brothers and sisters before a great God. There is good food and fellowship and a time to get to know people from other congregations but our focus at SMACC team is to pray, trusting in God's sovereignty to lead us and perfect us as a church, according to His will.

Installed

Welcome!

ACA is a church plant from St Mary's Cathedral and a sister congregation of SMACC. Sermons given at ACA are the same as sermons given in SMACC and you can listen to them here.

This is ACA's first blog and first blogpost so we are very much a work in progress. Do bear with us as we strive to make this an informative and welcoming online billboard and please return for more information on future events, photos and news.

We are currently meeting in a member's home as we endeavour to find a permanent venue. To view the map and brochure, please click here.
